Tradition also evolves
Tuplum® is a screw-on interchangeable mouthpiece system, created by Mayte Montero to make adjusting, replacing and maintaining the Colombian gaita easier.

How it works
Two pieces. One practical solution.

Socket + interchangeable mouthpiece.
The socket is installed in the head of the gaita, and the mouthpiece is attached through a screw system that allows you to adjust, remove and replace it without dismantling the head of the instrument again.

It all started with a question…
Between concerts, rehearsals and trips, more than once I worried about a mouthpiece breaking far from home. And you know what it's like to try to figure out a solution in those moments!
One day I asked myself: “If other wind instruments have spare parts, why doesn't our gaita?”
From that concern, from many trials and from the love for our music, Tuplum® was born — a screw-on interchangeable mouthpiece system I'm happy to share with those who enjoy and keep the Colombian gaita alive.
Because our traditions can also keep growing with new ideas.

Tradition that remains.
Innovation that transforms.

Common questions
Questions about Tuplum®
What is Tuplum?
It is a screw-on interchangeable mouthpiece system designed for the Colombian gaita by gaitera and luthier Mayte Montero.
Why was it created?
As an answer to the difficulties of the traditional duck-feather mouthpiece, especially its fragility and how hard it was to replace.
Is the mouthpiece interchangeable?
Yes. The system uses a screw joint that lets you remove and replace the mouthpiece without dismantling the head of the instrument.
Can it be adjusted?
Yes. The system allows the position of the mouthpiece to be adjusted to adapt the airflow and explore different playing configurations.
Is Tuplum patented?
Yes. In 2020, Colombia's Superintendence of Industry and Commerce granted Mayte Montero an invention patent for the gaita mouthpiece design.
Does it fit any gaita?
The system was designed specifically for Colombian gaitas; compatibility depends on the instrument's build and setup. To choose the right option, we suggest consulting a gaita builder who works with the Tuplum® system.
